Michigan’s school funding crisis continues to negatively impact the state’s Regional Mathematics & Science Centers. Since 2003 the legislature has reduced funding to the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District Regional Mathematics & Science Center by 81%.
Under these chronically difficult circumstances we are forced to evaluate all of our programs, including those that involve students directly. After considering participation trends, staff time required, and our ability to raise the funds necessary to operate the program, we have decided to put the Michigan Aerospace Challenge on hold for one year. During this year we will examine all aspects of the program to determine its future. Coaches and volunteers are being contacted regarding this decision.
Special thanks to our coaches, steering committee, and volunteers for their collective years of passionate service to the program and the tremendous value it has been to many students across the state. This has not been an easy decision and is not one that we have taken lightly.
