superintendent expects “remarkable” times ahead

While the first six months of my term as MAISD Superintendent have been momentous, the next six will be even more remarkable. Currently we are in the midst of selecting a new principal for the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center and exploring plans for a facility expansion. An expansion would meet the need for a large meeting space, and bring classes currently offered at Muskegon Community College to our Harvey Street campus.

In the area of technology, the MAISD and local districts have begun the transition from the Pinnacle Student Management System to the higher quality PowerSchool product. On the legislative front the Governor’s push to eliminate the Personal Property Tax, unlimited charter schools, and insufficient funding are clear indicators the financial crisis is worsening. Our lawmakers will continue to hear our united voices as we tirelessly advocate for ALL children.

Of course the most important work we do involves our collaborative efforts to improve student achievement and develop a college-ready culture. Much planning and professional development is underway as we fully embrace the national core curriculum while developing our own instructional strategies and timelines. Finally, on a lighter note, the MAISD answered the call to coordinate “Showcase” on March 14 and 15. See you at the Frauenthal Theater!
